Privacy Policy
Last updated: October 2026
Dormly connects students with landlords offering student accommodation. This page explains what personal information we collect, why we collect it, and how we keep it safe.
What we collect
- Account details: your name, email address, and whether you are a student or a landlord.
- Profile details you add: phone number and university.
- Listings: property details that landlords choose to publish (address, rent, contact number).
- Messages: conversations between students and landlords on Dormly.
- Payment proof: the commission proof of payment a student uploads, and the booking details linked to it.
Why we collect it
To create and secure your account, show listings, let students and landlords contact each other, and verify commission payments. We do not sell your personal information.
How we protect it
- Passwords are handled by Google Firebase Authentication. Dormly never sees or stores your password.
- Your profile can only be read and edited by you.
- Messages can only be read by the two people in the conversation.
- Proof-of-payment files and payment records are private to the student who submitted them and to authorised Dormly administrators.
- All data is sent over encrypted (HTTPS) connections.
Who else can see it
- Landlord listings (including the contact details a landlord adds) are visible to signed-in users.
- Our service provider, Google Firebase, stores the data on our behalf.
- We may share information if the law requires it.
Your rights
You can ask us to show you, correct or delete the personal information we hold about you. Email support@dormly.co.za and we will respond as soon as we reasonably can.
Keeping it safe on your side
Use a strong, unique password, and never share it. Only upload proof of payment for Dormly bookings, and cover any information on it that is not needed.
Changes
We may update this policy and will change the date above when we do.
